Cooking with Santos

Almost one year ago I posted pictures from my trip to Guatemala, and promised to share a video from the cooking class we did. I'm sitting here in anticipation to go back to Guatemala in about 14 hours, and see that not only did I never share it, I haven't put anything on the blog since then. Oh well. Here it is now! I was fortunate to visit Guatemala a few weeks ago. Here are some shots from the trip. I took more video than still, so I'll be working on compiling that. For now, enjoy these little snippets!

I used my Sony action cam more this trip than I have before. I'm still getting used to how to use it well, but I think this shot turned out cool.

Classroom Timers

It has been a long time since I have added to this blog. I decided to return to the blogging world with a new category for my posts: The Classroom. As I am in transition to a new job, I have realized that I have a wealth of resources that I can share pretty easily, particularly with technology.

I will start with a tool I've used almost every day: Classroom Timers. I've found timers to be a super valuable tool. For my students who typically globally have difficulty making transitions, I've found the timer to be a very simple classroom management strategy. This site provides free timers with a variety of choices for a visual connection to time passing. My students, particularly the boys, loved it when I use the rocket or the bomb option. A warning though, once I used the bomb, and we left the room before the end of the timer, and I neglected to stop it. The "bomb" went off, and my neighboring classrooms were very concerned, as the explosion sound continues until it is turned off.

Fall Creek Falls

Jakob and I stayed at Cozy Cabins near Fall Creek Falls for a few days for my spring break. It snowed, so we mostly stayed in, read, ate, drank, and watched movies. When it let up a bit we ventured out to the falls for a quick hike and it was worth it! I've been appreciating how black and white helps focus the subject out from the surroundings.

Advent 2

Advent.

This advent, I've decided to take on a creative project as my discipline. I am attempting to record a song and create a short film to accompany it each week. This first week of advent, I have created two. They are each meant to expose the tension that is felt as we wait for the coming of Christ. In some moments we wait with confidence, in others hopelessly, and in others still with great fear and trepidation.

Christ is coming.
